Our much-loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie, Audrey E. Spencer passed away at home in Kelowna on December 12. She is fondly remembered by her children Debbie (Hans) de Kok, Keith (Gina) and Sandra (Wayne) Smith.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband William James (Jimmy) and daughter Marlene Korolischuk (Jerry). Sisters: Edna Acorn, Gladys Avery, Blanche Bibby, and sisters-in-law Hazel Acorn, Doris Acorn, Melba Acorn, Eileen Spencer, Bella Castle, Florence Gorieu, Jean Spencer, and Elsie Swaby. Brothers: Wilfred, Edgar, Arnold, Wesley and brothers-in-law Edward Avery, Edward Bibby, Ernie Spencer, Gordon Castle, Joe Gorieu, Miles Spencer, and Ronald Swaby.
Audrey was the youngest of 8 children born to pioneers Elizabeth and William Acorn of Davis, SK. On completion of business college she married William (Jim) Spencer of Stanleyville, became mother to four children, and eventually settled in Saskatoon. When her children became more independent Audrey put to use her accounting talents to pursue a career with Revenue Canada first in Saskatoon and at the time of her retirement, Surrey, BC.
Mom enjoyed reminiscing about her school days at Davis, playing ball, being the little sister, the depression years, and working on the home front during the war. Family and friends, and friends of family and friends, were always welcomed with food and conversation at the cottage at Candle Lake or her homes in Saskatoon and Surrey. In her retirement years Mom enjoyed playing cribbage, travel, keeping track of her favorite teams and players, and maintaining a much admired home and garden. Most of all she loved her family and took much pride in the efforts and achievements of her children, grandchildren and extended family.
A summer burial service will be held in Prince Albert at a yet-to-be-determined summer date.
